This is a 3-part event: (DOORS OPEN AT 7P - NETWORK & meet members of the CNN special!
1. 7:35p - Brief Q & A discussion with members of the CNN documentary & guests!


2. 8p - CNN screening (8p-9p) which documents 8 people leaving their families behind for a summer to pitch their startups in Silicon Valley. You'll see the challenges they face and observe valuable insight on how to be a successful startup in the tech space.
3. 9:05p - A panel discussion and live tv taping (9p-10:15p) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Academic 4 Building, 1st floor Lecture Hall (campus map)! The fully-produced, 3 camera tv taping happens immediately after the CNN viewing and will also be webcasted live. The panel will share their thoughts on the CNN documentary and quickly move into in a discussion about startups, entrepreneurship, strategies to increase more minority tech startups and ideas on how to be successful in today's economic climate!

Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, President of University of Maryland Baltimore County. Under his direction UMBC has been awarded the #1 Up and coming college by US News and World Report.
Dr. Hraboswki is listed in the Top 10 University Presidents by Time magazine and he's received national acclaim for his Meyerhoff Scholars science program, filling the pipeline of brilliant minority engineers and scientists.
Dr. Hrabowski, will be on the show "60 minutes" this Sunday and will not be able to attend but wil address the audience via a videotaped Welcome!

Terry L. Jones, Managing Partner, Syncom Venture PartnersSyncom manages capital in excess of $400 million. Hank Williams, Entrepreneur, CEO & Founder of Kloud.co. Hank has raised $40 million in capital and has extensive knowledge of the startup. Hank has founded several technology based companies including ClickRadio, Elroy Networks, Cybersonic and Pastel Development Corp. where he developed DayMaker a best-selling and award winning personal information program between Currently he is the CEO and Founder of Kloudco - an early stage tech company
developing a new data management platform.
Dave Troy, Angel Investor, CEO at 410Labs, creator of Shortmail.com and Twittervision.com. A serial entrepreneur and software developer who is founder of Baltimore Beehive a collaborative workspace for technologists & entrepreneurs. Curator & the person responsible for TEDx Mid-Atlantic, TEDx Baltimore & TEDx Oil Spill. Founder of Baltimore Angels, a group of current & cashed-out investors, that are currently investing in startup companies. Board member of the Greater Baltimore Technology Council & a little over a year ago received "Innovator of the Year" by The Daily Record. He has recently raised close to $1million for his startup!
Wayne Sutton, Partner at The NewMe Accelerator-the first minority-led startup accelerator in Silicon Valley. He is one of the entrepreneurs featured in the CNN special. Read his thoughts about the recent firestorm surrounding the CNN special. Wayne has spoken at various internet/technology focused conferences and events such as O’reilly Web 2.0 Expo, NY, SXSW, Pubcon Austin, WordCamps, Social Media Breakfast, TAMA, TIMA, PRSA, FutureM/GEOM and Blog World. He is a cofounder of 2 new startups featured in the CNN special gokit and Vouch and is founder of 28 Days of Diversity.
Christian S. Johansson, Secretary, Maryland Dept. of Business and Economic Development
Christian, oversees Maryland’s nearly 250-employee business agency and its $85.6 million budget. During his tenure, he has helped the Governor craft strategic plans and form councils targeting Maryland’s competitive business strengths in rapidly growing industries such as biotech, cybersecurity, IT and foreign direct investment. He is also responsible for InvestMaryland, an initiative to fuel venture capital investment. Johansson earned a BS from Brown University and a MBA from Harvard University. An entrepreneur and management consultant, he also served on President Obama’s transition team and Executive Committee for Urban and Metropolitan Policy. In 2010, Christian was recognized as an Innovator of the Year by The Daily Record and a Special Advocate at the Top 100 MBE Awards.
Dr.Chad Womack, Scientist and bio-entrepreneur and is the co-founder and Chief Science Advisor of 3GEN a biotechnology company dedicated to developing nanobiotechnology platforms for commercializing vaccines and therapeutics. He also served as the Chair of STEM Education Taskforce for the Philadelphia School District. Received his PhD from Morehouse College and is a Fellow at Harvard University. In addition, he is Principal and Co-Founder atThe America21 Project Inc. a program designed to increase urban America prosperity through innovation capacity and economic competitiveness.

His company Mario Armstrong Media, LLC has negotiated creative contracts that make him the on-air digital lifestyle contributor for CNN's sister network HLN, NBC's Today Show and NPR’s Morning Edition; he has a weekly segment on CNN; and hosts the only daily technology talk show on SiriusXM radio as well as a radio series on WYPR-Baltimores NPR News station.
